Top 5 Reasons I use WordPress (And you should too!)

Its Free & Open Source!

WordPress is a completely free and open-source product.  As long as you have a domain name and hosting, you can use WordPress to build your site.  And since it is open-source, you can customize it however you like.  There is a huge community of developers who create new tools for WordPress, much of which is free!

It is the largest CMS.

WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS), a way for you to easily create, manage, and modify the content on your website.  It powers nearly 40% of the internet, and is by far the most popular CMS tool out there.  Because it is so widely used, there are tons of tools available to use with it and you can count on updates to keep it secure.

You own your website

Because WordPress is open-source, you own what you create with it.  With other web design services, such as Weebly or Wix, your content is not easily portable, and in some cases, not at all.  With WordPress, you can move your content easily.

You can customize it to your heart’s content!

Its free, open-source and because of this, there are literally thousands of ways to customize your website through WordPress.  You can build a theme, use a free theme, buy a theme, use a builder like Divi or Elementor, use the built in Gutenberg Blocks to create whatever you want.  My personal favorite (and what I use) is Oxygen.  It’s lightweight (meaning it loads fast!) and its super secure.

Oh, and the plug-ins! There are so many really great, free plug-ins that add functionality! Seriously, there are tons.  I could write posts just on all the great plug-ins you should have. (I think I’ll do that soon!)

It’s easy to use!

WordPress uses a universal dashboard – so whatever theme, builder, etc. that you choose, the WP dashboard always looks and functions the same.  WordPress began as a blogging CMS in 2003 and began as a way for bloggers to create their sites. Even though it powers some of the biggest names on the internet (ever heard of Beyoncé, anyone?) it also caters to anyone who wants to build a website.
